Here’s an invitation from Martin Sheen inviting you to join the 70th birthday celebration of long-time solidarity organizer Don White!

Dear Friend,

I’d like to invite you to a very special event: the 70th birthday celebration of one of LA’s best and brightest activists – Don White. The event will benefit two organizations that Don has served for many years, the Committee in Solidarity with the People of El Salvador (CISPES) and the Office of the Americas (OOA).

As you all know, Don is a Los Angeles community leader who has given his life to progressive struggles. It just so happens that he’s 70 years young this spring and celebrating nearly five decades as an organizer. Don’s steadfast loyalty, no matter how tough the going gets, has been an inspiration to L.A. activists young and old and typifies the determination that has kept social justice work moving forward even in the darkest days of Reagan and the Bushes.

Don’t just take my word for it! In 2005, thousands of Salvadorans gathered to celebrate 25 years of revolutionary struggle to free their country from military dictatorship, corporate control and US domination. The Salvadoran people and the FMLN, in turn, honored a few special organizations and individuals. You’ll recognize some of the names– Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro, the Sandinistas of Nicaragua. And right beside those leaders, the ones who are molding Latin America into a force capable of throwing off centuries of subservience to the colossus of the North, stood… Don White!

Don and I first met in Los Angeles during an upsurge by literally hundreds of thousands of people opposed to Reagan’s criminal funding of the brutal regimes in Central America. We have marched together often and Don always seems to be at the head of the procession. He has drawn inspiration from the courage and creativity of the people of Latin America, and we, in turn, have drawn inspiration from him. Now, after many difficult years, the tide is turning in Latin America. Don’s work as an organizer for CISPES and as a board member for OOA has helped make that change possible, while also inspiring many young people to take action. I know that Don’s solidarity and tireless work on behalf of social change have been invaluable, and I’m proud to support him and the organizations that he represents.

Join CISPES, the Office of Americas, and Don at this historic celebration and help advance the solidarity movement, while mobilizing to raise the resources to for these wonderful organizations to continue taking on their essential role in the struggle.

Yo ya conocia el compromiso social de esos cuatro artistas, bien comprometidos por la justicia y la libertad en el mundo.

Sean Penn hasta fue a Bagdad, antes de la guerra, y pagó una pagina completa en el NYT para pedirle al gobierno que no comenzara esa agresion contra el pueblo iraqui, ya que estaban de rodillas con el embargo de mas de 12 anos.

Es mas, Penn es hijo de un actor que fue calumniado por el Fiscal McCarthy, eso provoco el suicidio de este hombre. Hay mucho dolor en Sean Penn.

La pareja de Sarandon y Robins han colaborado mucho en lo que respecta a la solidaridad con El Salvador. Sarandon dio una exposicion magistral en una universidad sobre los Escuadrones de la muerte en El Salvador.

Sheen es como Ed Asner : 100% solidaridad con El Salvador, nunca ha parado de hacer actividades.

La lista es larga : Barbara Streissand, Sheryl Crow, Edward Asner, Dustin Hoffman, etc.

Qué bien! Bravo por ese trabajo soidario de parte de esas estrellas de hollywood!!

Susan Sarandon es una gran artista y que bueno que vive comprometida con estas causas.. y el marido igual… la Jane Fonda es otra verdad? bueno.. que bien que todavía hay gente del espectáculo con gran conciencia social no?

Pues resulta bien logico de entender que artistas,intectuales
y personas de gran prestigio se unan para denunciar al gobierno corrupto, narcotraficante y escuadronero de arena.Es vergonzoso
en el extranjero la imagen que ellos dan como gobierno.Aqui sus medios de prensa nacional solo se la pasan tirandoles flores o hablanda porqueria de la izquierda
o hablanda de futbol o de chismes baratos.No creo que ningun diario nacional comenten esta noticia de
Martin Sheen y su movimiento de denuncia.Mejor prefieren hablar paja (No sé si leyeron el reportaje del hacelotodo de la paris hilton que es salvadoreno asi como las que hacen la limpieza en su casa.EN EXCLUSIVA , le contaba a un periodico del pais puras mierdas sin las mas minimas importancias…)todo con el objetivo primordial de mantenernos en el estado de pendejizmo cronico
en el que estamos.

ey trompudos miren quiero preguntar algo. primero les dire que soy indio asta la muerte asi que este idioma del ingles no lo entiendo nimierda de esos que daran esa cosa no se nada. sera en español? por que de aunque no lo entienda si estoy dispuesto a regalarles unos centavitos todo sea por una buena causa. por que aparte odio alos areneros y mi familia igual ya les dije que voten por el frente en el 2009 y que le digan a todos los vecinos de la colonia. yo aqui en california con gusto boy con mi donasion.
